Terralingua is seeking one or more Volunteer Spanish-to-English Translators to support our organization’s communications.

Do you have professional experience translating narrative texts from Spanish to English? In other words, do you have a talent for giving texts a bit of flair in English?

And do you have an interest in cultural diversity, linguistic diversity, and biodiversity — aka biocultural diversity?

Then this may be an ideal role for you!

About Terralingua

Terralingua is a small but mighty team of independent collaborators working mostly remotely. We are passionate about the work we do to bring about a profound shift in human values — a shift that will make sustaining biocultural diversity a primary societal goal. At our helm is Dr. Luisa Maffi, co-founder and Director of Terralingua and Editor of Terralingua’s Langscape Magazine

We pursue our mission through research, education, outreach, and the storytelling featured in our flagship publication, Langscape Magazine and in the Indigenous Youth Storytellers Circle (IYSC).

To learn more about what you would bring to this role and how to apply, read the role description below, then send an email to Chang Liu, Blog Editor & Translation Desk, Terralingua, at blog@terralingua.org

Please include your resume detailing your translation experience and examples of your translations (published or clearly attributed to you).

We look forward to hearing from you!

Role Description — Volunteer Spanish-to-English Translator

The volunteer will provide Spanish-to-English translations of stories submitted to Terralingua’s Indigenous Youth Storytellers Circle (IYSC) and Langscape Magazine

These stories are personal, authentic narratives from Spanish speakers that celebrate the bounty of diversity in nature and culture. As such, they are neither technical nor academic in style. So, English translations must be faithful to the voices of the people who live and breathe the realities they portray.

Total hours for this role: approximately 20 hours per year on an as-needed basis.

Location: Remote

Role type: casual or occasional
