About Terralingua

Terralingua is an international nonprofit organization founded in 1996 by a small group of people who came together around a shared belief in the vital value of diversity in nature and culture. We think of biodiversity, cultural diversity, and linguistic diversity as a single whole, which we chose to call “biocultural diversity” — a name that stuck and has since become widely used around the world.

Here, you can find out how that belief has shaped our mission and goals, read more about our history and what we’ve been up to over the years, discover the people behind Terralingua, and learn about the organizations and institutions we’ve worked with or that have supported us.
