Langscape Magazine Team

Editor

Luisa Maffi, PhD (UC Berkeley, 1994), is co-founder and Director of Terralingua and spearheads Terralingua’s program of work. A pioneer of the concept and field of biocultural diversity, she brings her interest in the links between language, culture, and the environment and between linguistic, cultural, and biological diversity to bear on her work as editor of Langscape Magazine, along with editorial skills learned early in her life from her journal editor father. Working with storytellers from all over the world, she thoroughly enjoys the creative challenge of ensuring that each story shines at its best, regardless of language or other expressive barriers.

Akshara Sangiorgio

Editorial Coordinator / Copy Editor

Jadwiga (Akshara) Sangiorgio serves as the editorial coordinator, copyeditor, and proofreader for Langscape Magazine and the project coordinator, developmental editor, and copyeditor for the Indigenous Youth Storytellers Circle (IYSC). She is responsible for assisting in the production and publication of stories in both online and print formats. The most fulfilling aspect of her work at Terralingua is collaborating with remarkable individuals worldwide and supporting them to share their stories with a global audience.

She has a double major in Environmental Studies and English from the University of Victoria, BC. Her home base is Cortes Island, BC, Canada.

Communications & Marketing

Gia Querubin is the Communications & Marketing Coordinator at Terralingua, driving digital storytelling and strategic outreach for Langscape Magazine. She transforms weekly stories into engaging social media posts and crafts newsletters that connect with a global audience of partners, contributors, and stakeholders.

Since joining Terralingua, Gia has propelled record-breaking growth, achieving the organization’s highest social media engagement, website traffic, Langscape readership, and magazine sales. Her efforts have significantly increased Terralingua’s monthly reach and audience engagement. Beyond content creation, she provides strategic advice on digital marketing and communications, helping to broaden Terralingua’s impact and visibility.

Executive Assistant & Customer Care

Elena Oslopova provides executive assistance, customer care, and special project coordination to the Terralingua and Langscape Magazine team. Whether it’s shipping magazines, keeping all systems organized, or answering customer and contributor emails, Elena is always there to provide a kind and friendly presence to not only her team but to authors, customers, donors, and anyone else who reaches out for support.

Elena loves to take on new projects where Terralingua and Langscape Magazine can contribute to community engagements, such as the recent opportunity to take part in the Singing Earth Exhibition, held at the Busan Museum located in South Korea, where Terralingua was featured as one of the exhibitors in 2023.

Operations

Coreen Boucher, BSc, had the honour of becoming a collaborator with Terralingua in 2016 when she stepped into the roles of the Copy Editor and Editorial Coordinator for Langscape Magazine. After training Akshara Sangiorgio for that role, she moved into communications and marketing. She eventually trained Gia Querubin for that role and now works to support the operations of Langscape Magazine and Terralingua.

She gratefully works with an amazing team of collaborators to promote understanding and appreciation of biocultural diversity through storytelling. The storytellers and the stories shared in Langscape Magazine continually inspire and motivate her to deepen her relationship with the earth and to listen to the wisdom and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples worldwide.
