This page complements the photo essay โYamani: Voices of an Ancient Land,โ which presents a unique musical project by the same name, developed by six extraordinary Australian Indigenous women. They came together to support the revitalization of Aboriginal languages and the strengthening of Indigenous identity by creating, singing, and recording songs in their six different languages. As one of the women, Warrgamay Elder Bridget Priman, explains: โYamani means โrainbowโ in the Warrgamay language, and as the name for this group it reflects the coming together of different people and languages in a rainbow of song.โ
Here youโll find links to six short videos in which each Yamani project participant talks about her life experience and relationship to her language. Together, these videos provide further background to the Yamani project.
